The Watermill Theatre is getting ready to celebrate the festive season with a packed programme of events, experiences and entertainment, with the return of its smash-hit musical Pinocchio taking centre stage from 25 November to 3 January.
From a Christmas Fair filled with independent makers and festive treats, to live music, creative workshops, dining experiences and two nights of stand-up comedy, the Watermill’s festive programme offers something for audiences of all ages throughout November and December.
Back by popular demand, Pinocchio brings the magic of the Watermill to life this Christmas. The musical adaptation, based on the timeless tale by Michael Morpurgo, Simon Reade and Chris Larner, follows the world’s most famous puppet as he sets off in search of adventure, encountering a colourful cast of characters and getting himself into all manner of trouble along the way. 13 November
The festive season begins with the Watermill Christmas Fair, packed with gorgeous crafts, beautiful gifts and festive sparkle. Visitors can browse a host of independent stalls, while the Café Bar & Restaurant serves festive food and drink including mince pies and mulled wine. The fundraising event supports the Watermill’s work and local communities.
22 November
Budding singers can get the Christmas season off to a rocking start with the Watermill’s festive Scratch Choir. Led by Musical Director Simon Slater, participants will learn a selection of Christmas classics before performing for friends and family at the end of the day, with no previous singing experience required.
25 November – 3 January
The Watermill’s festive family favourite returns for Christmas. This magical musical adaptation follows Pinocchio from Gepetto’s workshop into a world of adventure, as he encounters colourful characters, makes mistakes, learns important lessons and discovers the power of unconditional love. Suitable for all ages, and most suitable for ages 4+, the production promises a theatrical treat for the whole family.
4 December
Get creative and make something personal for your home at the Watermill’s popular Christmas wreath making workshops. Led by professional florist Helen Vickers from Willow and Blooms, the sessions provide everything needed to craft a wreath from scratch, with tea, coffee and mince pies included in the afternoon session and fizz and mince pies in the evening.
7 & 8 December
Celebrate Christmas in style with a delicious three-course festive feast in the Watermill’s beautiful converted barn restaurant, accompanied by live music from brilliant actor-musicians fresh from the Watermill stage and the West End, including Priscille Grace and friends.
9 & 10 December
Enjoy a three-course meal alongside live music from Watermill favourites Alexander Zane and Samuel Morgan-Grahame. With a mix of Christmas classics and musical favourites, this festive dining experience promises an evening of food, music and seasonal cheer.
17 December
Watermill members are invited to an exclusive Christmas celebration, with festive drinks and nibbles and an opportunity to hear from Joint CEOs Claire Murray and Paul Hart about the theatre’s year. The free event is a thank-you to members for their support.
20 December
Headlined by acclaimed one-liner comedian Mark Simmons, this Christmas comedy night also features Jimmy McGhie and Julian Deane, hosted by Tom Toal. With a line-up of established comedy talent, it is a chance to enjoy a festive night of stand-up at the Watermill.
21 December
Celebrated British-Iranian comedian Shappi Khorsandi headlines a second night of Christmas comedy, joined by Andrew Bird and Nathan Caton and hosted by musical comedian Kate Lucas. Audiences can expect a night of sharp wit, storytelling and stand-up.
