Families are invited to discover a season of stories, laughter and adventure this autumn as Woolwich Works unveils a vibrant programme of theatre, circus, comedy and live entertainment, with an action-packed programme for October half-term at its heart.
Running throughout October and into November, the programme brings together acclaimed children's theatre, interactive performances, family comedy and spectacular circus, reinforcing Woolwich Works' growing reputation as one of south east London's leading destinations for high-quality family entertainment.
Families can step inside The Museum of Marvellous Things (11 October), an enchanting interactive production where children become explorers, uncovering extraordinary objects, curious stories and magical surprises in a theatrical experience designed especially for young imaginations.
A major half-term highlight is There's a Monster in Your Show (24 October), a joyful stage adaptation of Tom Fletcher's much-loved children's book series, bringing colourful characters, original music and audience interaction to the stage in an unforgettable adventure that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike.
Creative play continues with Out of the Box (25 October), a joyful blend of circus, physical comedy and visual storytelling from award-winning performer Darryl J Carrington. Meanwhile, winner of Best Kids’ Show at the 2024 Leicester Comedy Festival, Olaf Falafel brings his acclaimed family comedy to Woolwich Works during half-term with Olaf Falafel’s Stupidest Super Stupid Show So Far (27 October). Described as “the comedy show comedians take their kids to”, expect an hour of brilliantly ridiculous jokes, live drawing, time travel, truth-telling cheese and plenty of silliness.
As Halloween approaches, Spooky Circus (31 October) promises a spectacular finale to the month, exploring the dark, weird and wonderful side of contemporary circus through aerial silks, hoop, straps, contortion and a fiery finale.
Nick Williams, Director of Woolwich Works, commented: “We want Woolwich Works to be somewhere that families can come be curious and experience something they might not have seen before. There’s something particularly special about introducing children to live performance: whether it’s the spectacle of circus, the silliness of comedy or seeing a favourite story suddenly come to life on stage, those early experiences can stay with you for years.
“This autumn programme is full of imagination and playfulness, but there’s real variety too. We’ve got much-loved characters alongside brilliant comedians, circus artists and theatre-makers, with plenty happening over half-term and beyond. We hope families across Woolwich, Greenwich and further afield will come and make a day of it with us.”
The autumn programme extends beyond half-term, with a series of productions continuing into November. Families can enjoy the imaginative adventure Mr Sleepy Bum's Dream Machine (8 November), while little ones can dance, sing and play at Boppin' Bunnies (14 November). Later in the month, Captain Cauliflower & Marvin the Mischievous Moose (15 November) promises another joyful theatrical outing packed with music, storytelling and audience participation.
Finally, 29 November sees Neon Sun – Roller Circus rolling into Woolwich Works; an electrifying fusion of roller-skating culture, circus stunts and 90s-inspired street aesthetics. Combining high-speed tricks, urban dance, neon visuals and old-school hip-hop energy, the family-friendly production – and Glastonbury favourite - promises an adrenaline-fuelled finale to Woolwich Works’ inaugural circus and cabaret season.
The programme reflects Woolwich Works' commitment to presenting family entertainment that is imaginative, accessible and welcoming to audiences of all ages. Whether introducing children to live performance for the very first time or giving returning visitors something new to discover, each event has been selected to encourage families to experience theatre, comedy and circus together.
Alongside the performances themselves, visitors can make a day of their visit by exploring Woolwich Works' historic riverside setting, family-friendly public spaces, cafés and bars, making it one of south east London's most welcoming cultural destinations.
